Caffè Florian is a coffee house situated in the Procuratie Nuove of Piazza San Marco, Venice. Established in 1720, it is one of the oldest coffee houses in continuous operation in Italy, and one of the oldest in the world (the oldest being Café Procope founded in Paris in 1686).
The coffee house has always attracted notable people from Goldoni, Goethe, Casanova to Lord Byron, Proust and Charles Dickens, to mention a few.
Beautiful Rooms and friendly staff welcome you to this extraordinary house of history and culture.
So I was really looking forward to tasting the amazing coffee everybody was raving about!
Hmmm, what an astronomical disappointment!
First of all, the house blend they serve you is not the same as the one you can buy online. Online they mention 100% Arabica (Brazil and Central America), in the Coffee House, on the other hand, you find a Blend with Robusta in it!
The espresso had good body, but was completely flat in taste. It completely lacked character and any noticeable flavour…and that for EUR 9!
But the real disappointment was the Caffe Impero a Infusione ..” brewed coffee according to traditional Turkish tradition: delicate and light taste, prepared in the Florian Impero coffee cup with brass filter”
The waiter just poured hot water on an amount of the very same house blend coffee, grounded for an espresso, in an espresso size cup!
Absolute horror, dirty water at the scary price of EUR15!
No respect!
