Reid’s Palace is probably one of the most famous landmarks on the island of Madeira, a hotel frequented for over 130 years by many international names and well-known for its English afternoon tea on the hotel terrace.
So I arrived with rather low expectations and these unfortunately were fulfilled! Like most high-end hotels which have little knowledge of coffee, they also decided to go with the automatic Nespresso machine with capsules option, probably so they could save their time and efforts on serving the best tea instead. Fair enough…. Luckily we found a fantastic specialty coffee shop at the top of the Funchal cablecar which my brother announced as the best coffee he had ever tasted!,
